What is the pathway for decentralized social to achieve mainstream adoption? Does the onchain bit need to be hidden behind the platform or is the key to onboard ppl onchain first?

I think decentralized social will not go mainstream by being a decentralized substitute to what is social. I think it has to provide a fundamentally new experience. And I strongly believe that digital assets will upgrade what it means to be online. I think supporting creators, finding meaning and expressing yourself by digital objects — you own all of these on all dimensions. It will actually make the many hours we spend online more meaningful and more fun.

Being on a Farcaster is just such a sticky, better way of interacting with social media protocols just because you have full certainty that your social graph will survive. You can’t be de-platformed and you can very easily access the API. I think mostly because the platform had a million active users, it would be a totally different story and would be a much simpler pitch for for normal users who would like be able to see that it is strictly by their social media experience. It's much easier to utilize the social graph that you have on Farcaster, and I think we just need more time for it to visualize, but I treat it more like a compounding effect over time that will bring us to an app that actually has 1 billion users. I'm very comfortable with betting on Farcaster growing over time for whatever reasons because people are creative and people know that they can trust the the the protocol layer.

I think in the beginning, it's really great to lean into the crypto side, but in order to progress, you do have to go beyond it. I think a lot about how Tesla has approached it, like you have the Roadster and it's specific to rich people who wanted fast cars and then over time you're able to develop and reach a more mainstream audience with model 3 and I guess Cyber truck (although I don't know if there’s mass appeal there).

Hidden, it’s going to have to be what dwr.eth said about cozy channels. It's going to have to go beyond crypto, I think fairly soon to reach meaningful scale. I think the tech community might be the next one that gets interested by legos on social. There's already a lot of tech people in the community that are nerd sniped by friends.
